The European Union has previously stated that in order to protect the environment, it will completely ban the sale of new fuel vehicles from 2035.Regarding this issue, Mercedes-Benz CEO said in an interview that if the EU insists on a complete ban on the sale of new fuel vehicles starting in 2035, the European auto industry will collapse itself.

According to the CEO of Mercedes-Benz, decarbonization is imperative, but technology neutrality must be maintained and the economy cannot be ignored. Without fuel vehicles, the European automobile industry will face "collapse."

As president of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, Kallenius predicts that consumers will rush to buy gasoline and diesel cars before the ban takes effect, which will not help the climate.

The report mentioned that electric vehicles are far from reaching the 100% market share that the EU wants to impose. The 2035 ban has not yet been finalized and will be reviewed by the EU in the coming months.

In March this year, the European Commission still reiterated that new cars must achieve zero carbon dioxide emissions from the middle of the next decade, and plans to speed up the review of relevant regulations and may evaluate the ban in advance.

Of course, the outside world is also suspicious of the motivations of Mercedes-Benz CEO's speech, because in the first half of this year, pure electric vehicles accounted for only 8.4% of its global sales, down from 9.7% in the same period last year.
