Are you still keen on eating instant noodles now? Judging from Master Kong’s financial report, most of them are staying away from this kind of food. Master Kong recently disclosed its results for the first half of 2025. The financial report shows that Master Kong’s revenue in the first half of the year was approximately 40.092 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.7%, and sales fell by more than 1.1 billion yuan.
The decline in revenue was mainly due to the general pressure on its core business segments. Instant noodle business sales fell 2.5% year-on-year to 13.465 billion yuan.
Although Chinese people eat 43.8 billion packs of instant noodles a year, sales have not been ideal in recent years.
According to statistics from the World Instant Noodles Association, from 2020 to 2023, instant noodles consumption dropped by 4 billion packages in three years. In 2024, instant noodles consumption fell to 43.8 billion packages. In Q2 2025, instant noodles sales still fell 8.9% year-on-year. The halo of the once national fast food seems to be gradually fading.
Why don’t young people like instant noodles anymore? The answer is hidden in the details of life: take-out is popular, pre-made dishes, and self-heating food can be eaten at any time. Who still cares about the instant noodles that "one bucket is not enough, and two buckets are not enough"? Nowadays, young people are becoming more and more rational in their purchasing decisions. After all, the cost-effectiveness of a 6-yuan takeaway meal (with meat and vegetables) is far better than instant noodles.
On the other hand, instant noodles have also begun to become more and more expensive. The classic models that were once available for less than 5 yuan now easily rise to 6 yuan. The affordable luxury instant noodles have been sold in the 15-20 yuan price range. The high-end instant noodles cooperated by Master Kong and Sam's even sell for 79.9 yuan.
