The Xbox Series S|X console launched by Microsoft in 2020 has shown strong potential in the market and is regarded as an important step for the company to return to the hardware market. The consoles garnered widespread attention for their powerful performance and consumer-friendly designs, but nearly five years later, Microsoft's results have fallen short of expectations. Now, Microsoft has begun preparing for the release of the next generation of consoles, suggesting that the life cycle of this generation of consoles will soon end.

According to a new post on LinkedIn, Microsoft is "ending development on Xbox Series S|X" and preparing for the future hardware ecosystem. Carl Ledbetter, co-design lead for Xbox Device Design, said Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S represent the company's different strategic priorities in terms of performance and home entertainment integration, respectively.
Carl Ledbetter said in the post: "As we end our journey with Xbox Series X and Series S, I am full of excitement and anticipation for the future." This may indicate that Microsoft is preparing for the next generation of hardware products.

Although Carl Ledbetter did not reveal more specific details about future consoles, Microsoft has hinted that in the future it will focus on creating an ecosystem that integrates cloud gaming, portable hardware and home consoles. In line with this strategy, Asus ROG Xbox Ally is expected to be released later this year. In addition, there are rumors that Microsoft may release a new Xbox home console next year, and Carl Ledbetter's remarks seem to imply that these rumors have some truth.
