Despite the recent poor performance of Warner Bros.'s gaming division, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn said the company is preparing for a large-scale push in the industry. However, he also pointed out that this advancement will take time to be fully realized. During the interview, Gunn talked about the future of DC Studios and how he plans to expand the DC Universe in video games.

During the interview, Gunn acknowledged that there will be some smaller-scale DC games coming - possibly referring to titles like the recently announced LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight - but that larger projects are also in development.
"There's been some slight progress on different projects," Gunn said. "We've got a couple of smaller DC games coming out. But we've also talked about - and are in the early planning stages of - some bigger projects. One thing I'm particularly excited about, but it does take time. The Warner Bros. Games division has gone through some changes, so we're connecting with a new team."
While the exact meaning may be unclear, Gunn is likely pointing to a lengthy process that involves not just pure game development, but also other aspects of the business, such as getting the right proposals and finding the right studio for a specific style of game. As for what "bigger projects" in Warner Bros. Games' plans for the future might include, we can only hope it doesn't go the way of much-maligned service-based games like Suicide Squad: Destroy the Justice League.
Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran have previously stated similarly: Large-scale games in the DC universe will take time to develop, and players will have to wait a long time to play the next masterpiece.
"We see designs in the earliest stages of a project," Gunn said in February, according to IGN. "We discuss those designs. When they explore possible directions for the story, we say, 'Maybe you should move in this direction because of what we plan to do with this character and so on,' and help with that coordination."
In May this year, Warner Bros. revealed in its quarterly financial report that its gaming division’s revenue plummeted 48%. This decline may be attributed to the commercial failure of Warner's MultiVersus and Suicide Squad: Destroy the Justice League. The financial report also pointed out that games such as "Mortal Kombat 1" and "Hogwarts Legacy" continued to perform well. It should be noted that the statistical period for these income data is from January 1 to March 31, 2025.
Warner Bros.' gaming division has been experiencing turmoil recently. In January this year, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment President David Haddad announced his resignation.
In July, some job postings suggested that Warner Bros. may be developing a new service-based game based on the DC Universe. However, specific details have been scarce.
