The directing team teamed up with Universal Pictures dealmaker Jimmy Horowitz to pitch their vision to Activision Pictures. But Activision was reportedly deterred by "Spielbergian conditions" - which not only involved a top-end market price but also the director's complete control over final editing, production and promotion. In order to gain more control, the publisher, now owned by Microsoft, ultimately chose David Ellison's plan and handed production rights to Paramount.
