According to reports, BMW CEO Oliver Zipzer said in a recent interview with the media,The EU's plan to phase out fuel vehicles in 2035 is a "big mistake". He advocated that an emissions accounting system covering the entire vehicle supply chain should be adopted to replace current policies.

Zipzer said that setting a fixed date for the transformation of the automotive industry risks ignoring the actual carbon emissions at all stages of the automotive value chain, including those from battery manufacturing and energy harvesting.

He urged EU regulators to allow the use of environmentally friendly fuels after 2035, saying fuel producers must also take responsibility.

"It does us no good to set a mandatory deadline that all industries must complete the transformation on time. The absurdity of the current rules is that fuel producers such as Shell and BP are not required to undertake any emission reduction targets."

In addition, in early August this year, Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Kaellenius also criticized the EU's plan to ban fuel vehicles in an interview with the media.

"We need to face reality," Kaellenius said. "Otherwise, we're going to be in dire straits."He also said that if the ban is implemented, the European car market may "collapse."

It is understood that on February 14, 2023, the European Parliament officially passed the "Zero Emission Agreement for Newly-Sold Fuel Cars and Small Trucks in Europe in 2035", which aims to stop the sale of fuel vehicles in the 27 EU countries by 2035.

However, this plan has been opposed by many European car companies. The current basic base of European car companies is still fuel vehicles, and they have lagged behind Chinese car companies in terms of new energy and electrification.
