Google brings 1080p HD resolution and portrait format (9:16) support to its AI video generator Veo 3. This upgrade applies not only to the standard version of Veo 3, but also to Veo 3 Fast - the latter is a faster and cheaper AI video model that produces slightly lower quality video.

Developers can now generate vertical short videos that are more suitable for mobile devices and social media platforms by setting the aspectRatio parameter to 9:16 in API requests. At the same time, the upper resolution limit of 16:9 widescreen video has also been increased from the previous 720p to 1080p (vertical screen 1080p is currently not supported).
Google also announced that Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast have reached "stable and scalable production" levels in the Gemini API, and has significantly reduced video generation fees: Veo 3 prices have dropped from $0.75 per second to $0.40, and Veo 3 Fast has dropped from $0.40 to $0.15 per second.
It is worth mentioning that as early as June this year, Google announced that Veo 3 would soon support the YouTube Shorts platform. The opening of the vertical screen API means that in the future, more AI content generated by Veo 3 will appear on mainstream vertical screen video platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels.
