Recently, the legal dispute between Nintendo and peripheral device manufacturer Genki has come to an end, and the two parties have reached a settlement agreement. According to a series of tweets by social media user OatmealDome, the settlement agreement includes Genki paying a confidential amount of damages to Nintendo, and the accessory manufacturer admits that the Nintendo Switch 2 used to design its products was not obtained illegally.

Reach a settlement! Nintendo sues accessory maker Genki over leaks

Under the agreement, Genki agreed to stop using Nintendo's intellectual property, including trademarks, logos and color schemes. Specifically, elements associated with the Nintendo brand will no longer be used, such as naming the Switch 2 accessory "Glitch 2" or imitating the holding of a "Genki Direct" conference.

This case originated during the CES International Consumer Electronics Show in January 2025. Before Nintendo officially announced the appearance of Switch 2, Genki publicly displayed accessories that it claimed were designed for the console. Nintendo formally filed a lawsuit in May this year, accusing it of alleged infringement, unfair competition and false publicity. In the complaint at the time, Nintendo requested "triple compensation for all losses caused by the defendant's infringement" and claimed that if it won the lawsuit, Genki would destroy all related products involving Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

It is worth noting that although Genki hinted that it had come into contact with the Switch 2 prototype during CES, it later clarified that it had not actually seen the real machine and that the accessories it displayed were based on leaked information circulating on the Internet at the time. The company has made it clear: "Only Nintendo can confirm whether Switch accessories are compatible with Switch 2."
