The WeChat Security Center issued an “Announcement on Combating the Crime of Recruiting ‘Chat Agents’ to Conduct WeChat Drainage Fraud” through the WeChat public account. The WeChat team stated in the public account that recently, based on user complaints, we discovered that criminals posted agent chat recruitment information on external platforms.

They organized "chat agents" to add WeChat friends on the pretexts of finding pets, scratching cars, going on blind dates, etc., and then used the excuse of "adding friends by mistake" to carry out subsequent communication. Then the criminals will gradually guide the "chat agent" to chat with potential victims, and induce potential victims to download external apps, and then carry out cross-border e-commerce fraud such as false investments, making friends, and renting houses.

The WeChat Security Center once again emphasizes that users should not take any chances and participate in helping information network criminal activities. Once the above-mentioned behavior is discovered and verified, the platform will handle relevant accounts in a step-by-step manner depending on the severity of the violation in accordance with relevant national laws and regulations as well as the "Tencent WeChat Software License and Service Agreement" and "WeChat Personal Account Usage Specifications"; repeated violators may be permanently restricted from logging in. The platform will also summarize corresponding evidence clues and cooperate with relevant law enforcement agencies and judicial agencies in handling the cases in accordance with the law.

If the above-mentioned violations are discovered on the WeChat platform, you can lodge a complaint through the WeChat client or Tencent Guardian. We will handle it in a timely manner after verifying the complaint materials. Users are also requested to pay attention to protecting personal information, be careful when adding unknown friends, do not believe in "adding friends by mistake" and other tactics, refuse to download external apps from unknown sources, and protect the safety of their own property.
