The goal of gigawatt-scale data centers has not yet been achieved, and Musk has begun discussing terawatt-scale data centers, underscoring the American technology tycoon's ambitions in artificial intelligence. One X user posted: "xAI currently has 460 MW of natural gas turbine capacity installed and operating or under construction...xAI will be the first to reach 1,000 MW (1 GW) in a single data center site."
Musk responded: "1 gigawatt is still a piece of cake. For 100 gigawatts of continuous power (about 1/5 of the average U.S. electricity consumption), it will probably need solar/battery power. Above 1 terawatt (1,000 gigawatts), solar/battery is the only realistic option."
