U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that artificial intelligence is taking over the world and he hopes tech bosses know what they are doing because he doesn't. Trump and British Prime Minister Starmer hosted business and technology leaders including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang as part of Trump's second state visit to the UK.
Trump acknowledged that his knowledge of artificial intelligence is limited. "This will create new government, academic and private sector collaborations in areas like AI, which is taking over the world...I'm looking at you. You're taking over the world. Jason, I don't know what you're doing here," Trump quipped to Huang, earning laughter from Starmer and others present.
"I hope you're right. All I can say is, we all hope you're right," Trump said.
Trump and Starmer subsequently signed a "Tech Prosperity Deal" to work together to develop artificial intelligence models for health care, expand quantum computing capabilities and streamline civilian nuclear projects.
As part of the deal, Nvidia said it will deploy 120,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) in the UK, marking Nvidia's largest deployment in Europe to date.
Before signing, Trump jokingly asked accompanying U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent: "Should I sign this?"
"Are you sure, Scott? If the deal is bad, I'm going to blame you, Scott," Trump said.
