On September 19, 2025, the People's Court of Haidian District, Beijing publicly pronounced the verdict in accordance with the law in the case of the defendant Zhai Moumou suspected of committing the crime of extortion and a civil lawsuit attached to it. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison for extortion and fined RMB 100,000. Zhai Moumou was ordered to compensate the plaintiff Wei Moumou and others in the attached civil lawsuit for a total economic loss of more than RMB 70,000.

After trial, it was found that in March 2017, the defendant Zhai and the victim Su established a romantic relationship. In May of the same year, the two purchased a property in Hainan Province for a total price of more than 3.19 million yuan. Su paid a down payment of more than 1.99 million yuan for the house. On June 7 of the same year, the two registered their marriage. Between July and September, Zhai filed for divorce, threatened to report Su and the company he ran, demanded 10 million yuan in mental damages, and demanded that the Hainan property be owned by him. On July 18, Su Moumou was forced to pay Zhai Moumou 6.6 million yuan, and then changed the purchaser of Hainan real estate to Zhai Moumou. After Zhai obtained the above-mentioned property, he still threatened Su several times and demanded the remaining money. On September 7, 2017, Su fell to his death. Zhai Moumou has refunded all illegal gains.
After review, it was found that the plaintiff Wei Moumou and others in the attached civil lawsuit suffered a total of more than RMB 70,000 in funeral expenses, transportation expenses and other economic losses due to the death of the victim Su Moumou.
After trial, the court held that the defendant Zhai’s behavior constituted the crime of extortion, and the amount was particularly huge. The evidence in the case shows that the marriage relationship between Zhai and Su lasted only 42 days, and they had no common property. What Zhai claimed was Su's personal property. Zhai Moumou did not have the basis for civil claims for compensation and damages during divorce, and carried out extortion in order to obtain property. The court comprehensively considered the nature, circumstances, and degree of social harm of Zhai's crime and sentenced him in accordance with the law. The compensation claims claimed by the plaintiff Wei Moumou and others in the incidental civil lawsuit complied with the legal provisions and were supported by the court.
The public prosecutor, the plaintiff in the incidental civil lawsuit, his or her authorized litigation agent, the defendant, and the defender attended the court to attend the sentencing.
