The Microsoft 365 Copilot app for iOS will no longer be an all-in-one editing platform, but will be transformed into a preview-focused Copilot center. When the user needs to edit a document, the app will guide the user to use separate Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications. This feature will be rolled out to TestFlight users from August to September 2025, and will be officially released on October 13, 2025.

Microsoft launched a unified mobile Office experience many years ago to provide users with a single application that integrates the viewing and editing functions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Later, Microsoft renamed it Microsoft 365, which can also read and edit documents; earlier this year, Microsoft renamed Microsoft 365 to Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Therefore, the change this time is not the Microsoft Copilot AI application, but the previous iOS version of Office/Microsoft 365. In the future, users can only download independent applications for editing.

Specifically, when users open Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files in Microsoft 365 Copilot, they will be displayed as previews, and Copilot can read, summarize, and answer relevant questions.

When clicking Edit, the app will display a banner prompting the user to open (or install) the corresponding Word, Excel, or PowerPoint app to make changes.

In addition, Microsoft 365 Copilot will no longer include the full OneDrive browsing and management experience. Although files will still be searchable in it, advanced file management and browsing will require the OneDrive app.
