According to reports, Unit 2 of the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant in Gyeongju City, North Gyeongsang Province reported a heavy water leak on the 19th. The Korea Atomic Energy Safety Commission estimated that as of noon that day,The total amount of heavy water leaked was approximately 265 kilograms.

The heavy water leaked at this stage is all within the facility and has not leaked outside the nuclear power plant. No abnormalities in radiation levels outside the nuclear power plant have been found.
When the leak occurred, the unit was in a routine shutdown and maintenance period. Korea Hydro and Atomic Energy Corporation, which is responsible for operating the unit, said that it immediately shut down the relevant nuclear pumps after detecting the leak.
This is the second leakage accident reported at Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant this year. On January 12 this year, when Wolseong Unit 2 was operating normally, approximately 29 tons of nuclear waste liquid in the storage tank without sample analysis was discharged into the sea.
