Some time ago, a blogger mobilized satellites to restore the slogan "Serve the People" in the Gobi Desert of Hami, Xinjiang, which attracted the attention of the entire Internet. While netizens liked the post, they were also very concerned about the reason why the large characters were destroyed. The people involved have been identified.

According to a report released by Xinjiang’s public account, the recent destruction of the “Serve the People” navigation beacon located in Qincheng Township, Yizhou District, Hami City has aroused widespread concern in society.

According to the third national land survey, this area belongs to other grasslands,The Yizhou District Forestry and Grassland Bureau of Hami City launched an investigation into the incident. It conducted multiple interviews with Zhang Moulong and Li Mou who were involved in destroying navigation marks, went to the scene to identify them, and organized on-site inspections by law enforcement personnel and experts, as well as on-site inspections by third-party survey companies.

After investigation, in 2024, Zhang Moulong (whose online name is Xinjiang Pingtou Ge) and Li drove an off-road vehicle and drifted at the "Serve the People" navigation mark, causing damage to the grassland surface in the area.

At present, the investigation and evidence collection have been completed, case processing is in progress, and the results will be announced in a timely manner.

It is reported that after the blogger "Lukepo Hotel" learned that the slogan had been destroyed, he drove 2,000 kilometers to Hami and searched the Gobi Desert for two days and two nights before he found black stones that matched the color of the landmark and bought 20 tons.

Then four helpers were hired and spent a week filling in all the potholes left by the drift.

After the repair was completed, we contacted Changguang Satellite staff and confirmed the final repair effect through the "Jilin-1" satellite images.

Satellite records show that on July 16 and October 11, 2023, the large-character slogan was intact; on June 23, September 12, and October 1, 2024, two drift traces were found; on March 11 and May 26, 2025, it suffered a second round of damage, and the middle of the word "People" was seriously damaged.
