On the 21st, the world's first sea-wind direct-connected submarine data center demonstration project was completed in the Lingang New Area of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone. The total investment of the project was 1.6 billion yuan and the total construction scale was 24 megawatts. This marked China's breakthrough in the integrated development of submarine data centers and offshore new energy, and provided an important demonstration for the green and low-carbon development of computing infrastructure and the nearby consumption of offshore new energy.

According to reports, the Shanghai Lingang Submarine Data Center will be built based on the existing space and facilities of the Lingang Offshore Wind Farm. The total investment in the project is 1.6 billion yuan, the total construction scale is 24 megawatts, and it will be constructed in two phases.

As a core element of new productivity, computing power is profoundly promoting high-quality economic development. With the full implementation of China's "digital data in the east and computing in the west" project and the deepening of the "double carbon" goal, it has become an industry consensus that data centers will become green, intensive, and intelligent.

The Shanghai Lingang Subsea Data Center project has the advantages of green, low-carbon, and synergy between computing and electricity. Su Yang, general manager of Shanghai Hailan Cloud Technology Co., Ltd., said: "Compared with traditional data centers on land, this project accounts for more than 95% of green power, can save 22.8% of electricity, 100% of water, and more than 90% of land. It is an innovative representative of new computing infrastructure."

"The Shanghai Lingang Subsea Data Center project only took about four months from signing to completion, setting a new pace for the construction of computing power centers in Lingang." Wu Xiaohua, deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee of Lingang New Area, said that this is an important milestone for Lingang New Area to promote the deep integration of digital economy, new energy and marine economy. It is also an important measure for Shanghai to serve the national strategy and build a global science and technology innovation center.

The first batch of deployment services of the Shanghai Lingang Submarine Data Center Project is mainly based on domestic computing power clusters. Domestic computing power servers, network switches and other independent controllable equipment of multiple brands from Shanghai and even across the country have been deployed in this project, opening a new industry integration model of "offshore wind power, computing power coordination, and domestic computing power".

The completion of the Shanghai Lingang Submarine Data Center project is a key step in the industrialization of China's submarine data centers. In the next step, the submarine data center will be combined with the deep-sea wind farm to build a super-large-scale computing center. On the 21st, Shanghai Hailan Cloud Technology Co., Ltd. held a signing ceremony on site with Shenergy Group, Shanghai Telecom, Shanghai Instrument & Electronics, and CCCC Three Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. to jointly launch a 500-megawatt sea-wind direct-connected submarine data center strategic cooperation.

"The construction of submarine data centers is generally still in its infancy. To achieve the transformation from demonstration project leadership to large-scale application, there is still a long way to go in terms of technological maturity and cost optimization." Wang Shifeng, chairman of CCCC Third Navigation Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., said that in the future, the company will focus on core technological breakthroughs, operation and maintenance model optimization, green and low-carbon upgrades of deep sea computing infrastructure, and collaborate with relevant parties to jointly carry out technological innovation, jointly participate in the research and formulation of industry standards, and promote the healthy and sustainable development of the industry.
