Apple has released iOS 17.2 to the public, an update that adds the long-awaited Journal app and improvements to Apple Music. iOS 17.2, the second major update to iOS 17 since the launch of iOS 17.1 on October 25, has completed testing and can now be installed by the public on their iPhones.

The biggest highlight of this version is the addition of the “Notes” application, which was not included in the original iOS 17 version. “Notes” is designed to allow users to post content about the day, including adding photos, audio clips and locations for later recollection.

Apple also introduced spatial video recording functionality in the beta version of iPhone 15 Pro. The feature will allow users to record video using their iPhone and then watch it on Vision Pro, which will be released in early 2024.

AppleMusic has some changes. The user's favorite songs will be grouped together in a new favorites playlist. At the same time, Apple Music's "Listening History" also provides a "Focus Filter" that can turn off "Listening History" so that songs played by you or others will not be added to the list.

A new sticker reply has been added to the Messages app, which users can use instead of clicking to reply, and iMessage contact key verification has been added to the app so users can authenticate each other to ensure communications are secure and private.

A new option has been added to the "Action Button" on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, which can now trigger "Translate".

Changes have been made to the AppleTV app, with the Movies and TV Shows tabs removed from the Store. There are new weather widget options including details and daily forecast, as well as a new digital clock widget.

Among other changes, the Books app has a new quick fade page turning animation, Memoji has a new "body", the News app has new real-time activity support, and contact posters have a new rainbow-colored text option.

To manually update a device to iOS 17.2, users must open the Settings app, then select "General" and then "Software Update." If an update is available for your device, tap it and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
