As Google TV replaces Google Play Movies & TV, which will completely disappear in January this year, Android TV, some cable boxes, and apps on the web will be replaced by other access methods. Since the launch of the GoogleTV platform in 2020, the brand has replaced PlayMovies&TV in areas such as mobile apps.

This decision was also applied to Android TV in October of this year, and since then, the app no longer works properly on the TV system, and opening the app will redirect you to the "Store" tab of Android TV, which has been officially launched for several months.

In a new post, Google explains that it will be removing the last part of Google Play Movies & TV functionality in January 2024.

However, you'll still have access to all your previously purchased videos (including those you're renting) on Android TV devices, Google TV devices, the Google TV mobile app (Android and iOS), and YouTube.

On January 17, PlayMovies&TV will officially be permanently disabled on Android TV. For those still using the app (which is no longer available to most), moving to the Store tab will be the only option.

Similarly, Google said PlayMovies&TV will also be discontinued on other platforms on the same day. Any cable boxes with the app integrated will also lose the app and will be pushed to the YouTube app to continue accessing purchased content. Web access via play.google.com/movies will also disappear, with YouTube.com/movies becoming the alternative.
