According to media reports,Shanghai developer "Fan Ge" and his team spent half a year developing a lightweight, low-cost AI glasses that can assist the visually impaired to identify blind roads, traffic lights, zebra crossings and obstacles in real time, and guide the visually impaired to travel safely through voice interaction.

The device uses the open source model Tongyi Qianwen Qwen-Omni as the technical base. The entire set of hardware costs only about 100 yuan. All codes, hardware lists and 3D models have been open sourced in the Magic Community.

In a real street test, the developer used the guidance of the glasses to safely cross four complex intersections without signal lights in just 27 minutes. What’s even more surprising is that the “life exploration mode” expanded by the device already supports supermarket product identification and attraction explanations. Visually impaired users can realize autonomous shopping, cultural venue tours and other scenarios through voice commands.

Developers said that AI can help the visually impaired, but technology alone is definitely not enough and requires the joint efforts of the whole society. More and more young developers are exploring AI + public welfare and using creativity to solve social problems. Good technology must eventually return to humanistic care.
