U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said that Nvidia is able, willing and should sell artificial intelligence chips to China, which is also in line with business logic. Currently, the U.S. Department of Commerce is discussing relevant matters with Nvidia. However, current regulations limit the types of products that can be sold into China.
Raimondo pointed out,Nvidia hopes to "make the right choice" in selling artificial intelligence chips to China.According to earlier reports, Nvidia has a whopping $9 billion share of China's market for chips used to process big data and develop artificial intelligence software.
In October last year, the United States updated its export restrictions, limiting the sales of chips produced by Nvidia and other companies for the Chinese market. This is a decision made by Washington to hinder China's acquisition of advanced semiconductor technology.
Citing people familiar with the matter, Tencent and other small artificial intelligence companies are launching their own chip products and stepping up their marketing offensive. They hope that even if the U.S. regulations only affect the most advanced chips, it will still be an opportunity to lure customers away from Nvidia.
