E-commerce giant Amazon announced that it plans to invest more than 1.4 billion euros in the Netherlands over the next three years (2025-2027). This is the company's largest investment commitment to the Dutch market since the launch of Amazon's Dutch site (Amazon.nl) in 2020.

It is reported that this investment will be used to support Amazon’s retail business and Amazon Cloud Services (AWS), focusing on infrastructure construction and providing support for small and medium-sized enterprises. Amazon said it will use the funds to improve its technology and logistics systems to bring a better experience to customers and entrepreneurs.

Eva Faict, Amazon Country Manager for Belgium and the Netherlands, said: "The Netherlands is an important growth market for us. Our primary goal is to continue to provide Dutch customers with low prices, a rich selection of products, and faster and more convenient delivery services. Our investment of more than 1.4 billion euros reflects this commitment."

Feckert further pointed out that this investment will greatly benefit Dutch small and medium-sized enterprises selling through Amazon.nl. Currently, more than 60% of the products on Amazon.nl come from cooperative sellers. More and more Dutch entrepreneurs have successfully developed their businesses through this platform, not only covering local customers in the Netherlands, but also expanding to the global market. Amazon not only provides entrepreneurs with sales channels, but also provides comprehensive support in terms of logistics solutions, marketing tools, and export opportunities.

While Amazon did not disclose whether the investment would create new jobs in the Netherlands, it did release some existing data. Currently, more than 4,500 small and medium-sized enterprises sell on the Amazon platform, and nearly 90% of them sell products to 170 countries around the world. Amazon employs more than 1,000 people in offices and delivery stations in the Netherlands. In 2024 alone, Amazon's investments indirectly supported more than 2,000 jobs and created 900 induced jobs, contributing more than 200 million euros to Dutch GDP. Since 2013, Amazon’s cumulative contribution to Dutch GDP has exceeded 1 billion euros.

This major investment demonstrates Amazon’s long-term commitment to the European market, especially the Dutch market, and is expected to further consolidate its market position in the local e-commerce and cloud computing fields.
