In response to the MEGA spontaneous combustion accident that occurred on October 23, Li Auto decided to implement a voluntary recall and stated that "Li Auto hopes to ensure that spontaneous combustion accidents will no longer occur in all models in the future." On October 31, Li Auto filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation.Starting from November 7, 2025, a total of 11,411 Ideal MEGA 2024 cars with production dates from February 18, 2024 to December 27, 2024 will be recalled.
"This recall is a voluntary recall. Accident investigations take time, and sometimes they don't come out for a month or two. We have discovered the hidden dangers that caused the accident, and we cannot wait in the face of a one-in-10,000 risk." Li Xiang, chairman of Li Auto, said on social media.
According to the recall announcement, the vehicles within the scope of this recall have insufficient anti-corrosion properties of the coolant. Under certain conditions, the cooling aluminum plates of the power battery and the front motor controller in the cooling circuit may corrode and leak, causing the vehicle to have a fault light, limited power, and inability to power on. In extreme cases, it may cause thermal runaway of the power battery, posing safety risks.
"The coolant is supposed to be like 'antifreeze + anticorrosive' to protect aluminum parts from rusting. However, the amount of anticorrosive in this batch of coolant is insufficient, and the aluminum cooling plate is slowly corroded, and small pinholes may appear on the surface.If the cooling plate leaks and the coolant seeps out, it may cause water in the battery pack, a short circuit, and eventually even an out-of-control fire. Li Auto officially issued a statement after the recall announcement stating that it launched an internal investigation and analysis after the accident, reviewed the cloud warning system records and special verification data, and investigated the safety hazards mentioned above.
"In fact, more than four hours before the vehicle caught fire, our cloud warning system had received relevant warning prompts, and the staff contacted the car owner and driver as soon as possible. However, since there had never been a non-collision fire before, we failed to take emergency measures at the first time, which also resulted in missing the best opportunity to intervene in advance." Li Auto said in a concentrated response to the questions raised by netizens.
Ideal officials specifically mentioned that, combined with cloud early warning system records and special analysis and verification, the status parameters of each battery cell were normal before the accident, which can rule out a fire caused by abnormalities in the battery cells themselves. At the same time, Lideal MEGA produced after December 28, 2024 does not have this risk; other Li Auto models do not have this problem either.
According to the recall announcement, Li Auto will conduct safety inspections and replace and repair all Lideal MEGA 2024 vehicles from the same batch as the vehicle involved in the accident. The replacement scope includes free replacement of coolant, power battery and front motor controller.
According to public statistics from the Federation of Passenger Transport Associations,As of September 2025, the cumulative sales of Lili MEGA are approximately 18,296 units, of which the cumulative sales in 2024 are approximately 10,800 units.
In the aforementioned centralized response, Li Auto promised to “ensure that no spontaneous combustion accident will occur again.”
