Currently, TSMC has obtained all relevant approvals and is about to build a new factory in Taichung City for the production of 14A 1.4nm process! The entire project includes the core wafer fab, water supply and power supply facilities, and some auxiliary buildings. The total investment is expected to reach US$49 billion, setting another record high in TSMC’s history.According to the plan, TSMC will mass produce the 14A process in the first half of 2028.
TSMC’s 14A process was officially announced in April this year. From naming to technology to foundry, it is aligned with Intel 14A.
TSMC 14A is known as a new upgrade and is another important node after N2 2nm.Performance can be improved by 10-15% under the same power consumption, and power consumption can be reduced by 25-30% under the same performance., the logic transistor density is increased by up to about 23%, and the chip density is increased by up to about 20%.
According to industry sources, TSMC’s 14A wafer quotation will be as high as about US$45,000, which is a full 50% increase from the US$30,000 price of the N2 process, but demand will inevitably exceed supply.
Just in September this year, TSMC has informed customers that processes below 5nm, including 5nm, 4nm, 3nm, and 2nm, will increase prices for four consecutive years starting from January 2026, with an average annual increase of 3-5%.
