Apple announced that the AI-driven “real-time translation” feature will be available on AirPods headphones in the European Union in December. This feature will support AirPods Pro 2, Pro 3 and AirPods 4, and can instantly switch between 9 languages: English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Japanese and Korean.
The feature also optimizes the listening experience through binaural collaboration, automatically lowering the original sound to highlight the translated content.
In order to comply with the requirements of the European Union's Digital Market Act, Apple has previously admitted that it needs additional engineering investment to ensure the privacy and security of conversations.
Currently, iPhones equipped with Apple Intelligence and upgraded to the iOS 18.2 developer beta can already enable this feature in advance, and the public beta will be launched soon.
