Apple is closing in on a deal with Google under which it will pay Google about $1 billion per year to provide a customized version of Google's Gemini artificial intelligence model for Siri, Apple's upcoming voice assistant.

This cooperation is of great significance because Apple has always focused on its own technology, but this time it plans to temporarily adopt Google's AI model as a transitional solution until Apple's own artificial intelligence strength achieves a breakthrough. This AI model is expected to support a range of new features for Siri.

It is reported that the Gemini AI model customized by Google for Apple has 1.2 trillion parameters, far exceeding the cloud model currently used by Apple - the current Apple Intelligence only has 150 billion parameters. The number of parameters is an important indicator of the complexity and capability of an AI model. The complexity of Google's model will be approximately 8 times that of Apple's existing model.

Earlier this year, Apple also considered adopting AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic. After testing products from three companies, Apple finally chose to further cooperate with Google.

Bloomberg reports that the new version of Siri is expected to be launched next spring. However, since the official launch is still several months away, plans may change.
