Amazon on Friday announced the launch of Amazon Bazaar, a new low-cost standalone shopping app, launching in more than a dozen markets across Asia, Africa and Latin America. The app will run separately from Amazon's main shopping app and is designed to provide users with new low-price shopping options. It is reported that the price of most items on Bazaar is less than $10, and some items are even as low as $2.

Currently, the Bazaar application is open for download on Android and iOS platforms, and has been launched in countries and regions such as Hong Kong, Philippines, Taiwan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Nigeria. Amazon said it will add more markets to the service in the coming months.
Bazaar's product line and positioning overlap greatly with "Amazon Haul", which was launched in November last year and focuses on the low-price market. Haul is currently available in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan and Australia through the Amazon main website and main app. In some markets, Bazaar has previously been embedded in Amazon's main shopping application as a low-price area, and relevant versions are still available in Mexico, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Amazon said the reason for using different names is to better fit local language and cultural habits.
The establishment of an independent shopping platform for low-priced goods shows that Amazon has accelerated its response to China's cheap shopping platforms (such as Temu, SHEIN and TikTok Shop). These platforms are popular among young users and low-income groups because of their low prices, and focus on areas such as clothing, home furnishings, and electronic products.
According to reports, the Bazaar application will provide users with hundreds of thousands of low-priced fashion, home and lifestyle products, while retaining Amazon's consistent evaluation system, including user reviews and star ratings. Users can log in using their existing Amazon account and check out via payment methods such as Visa, Mastercard or American Express. Each market has a free shipping threshold. If the threshold is not reached, standard shipping will be charged.
Bazaar orders are expected to be delivered within 2 weeks, support free returns within 15 days, and provide multi-lingual customer service support. The application itself supports six languages: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German and Traditional Chinese. In order to attract new users, Bazaar will also launch social sweepstakes and promotions, and provide first-time customers with a 50% discount on the shipping cost of their first order.
