United Parcel Service (UPS) announced the immediate grounding of its McDonnell Douglas MD-11 fleet after the company's cargo plane crashed in Louisville this week, killing more than a dozen people. The company said in a statement that the decision was made "out of an abundance of caution" and "based on the recommendations of the aircraft manufacturer" and will affect approximately 9% of UPS Airlines' fleet.
"Nothing is more important to us than the safety of our employees and the communities we serve," UPS said, adding that the company has contingency plans in place to ensure it can continue to serve customers.
