General Motors CEO Mary Barra once said that the company is working hard to move more of its supply chain to the United States. "For several years, we have been working hard to enhance the resilience of the supply chain." The company sources parts as much as possible from the country where the car is produced.

GM has been one of the most aggressive car companies looking to wean itself off dependence on Chinese battery materials and computer chips. For example, it partnered with a U.S.-based rare earths company and invested in a lithium mine in Nevada for use in future electric vehicle battery materials. But the latest efforts are broader and include more basic components and materials.
