U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he plans to sue the BBC next week, seeking up to $5 billion in damages over its editing of his speech, despite the network having previously apologized. "I feel like I have to do this," he told reporters aboard Air Force One, adding that his lawsuit would seek between $1 billion and $5 billion.

Trump's lawyers said in a letter to the BBC on November 9 that the BBC had until Friday night to issue an apology, withdraw the controversial Panorama documentary and provide financial compensation for "the harm caused" or face a $1 billion defamation lawsuit.
The BBC issued a formal apology on Thursday, following the retraction of a video titled "Trump: A Second Chance?" ” program, which was broadcast a week before the 2024 presidential election, but the BBC did not provide Trump with any compensation. A few days ago, BBC chief executive Tim Davie and news director Deborah Turness resigned.
