"Super Mario Galaxy Movie" poster: Odyssey, the land of sand appears?

We have just seen the new poster of "Super Mario Galaxy Movie". This poster has a strong feeling of... "Super Mario: Odyssey"? In this new poster released today, Mario and Luigi stand in a highly recognizable scene - it is the Kingdom of Sand in "Super Mario: Odyssey", with the inverted pyramid, Tostana architecture, and Tustana residents inspired by the Day of the Dead all appearing.

In fact, we have already known that the Sand Kingdom will appear in some form in "Super Mario Galaxy Movie", and there was a brief scene in the trailer released earlier this week. In the picture, Mario and Luigi are wearing the costumes from the poster, riding motorcycles through the desert, and then rushing down the sand dunes. In the valley below is the inverted pyramid.

At the time, though, it seemed like it was just part of a montage of the areas visited by the two brothers on their galactic adventures. A whole poster was released specifically for the Kingdom of Sand, which makes people speculate whether "Super Mario Galaxy Movie" will significantly incorporate the story elements of "Super Mario: Odyssey"? Will we see more kingdoms? Maybe Cappy will also appear?

That being said, both The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the sequel as we know it so far have been flexible in their approach to borrowing content from the Mario series. The previous game was full of homage Easter eggs and didn't strictly follow the loose plot of a single game (even if there was a plot at all), and we already know that "Super Mario Galaxy Movie" will have the Super Mario Bros. appear as the main villain, and will also bring the paintbrush he used in "Super Mario Sunshine". We're even guessing he'll be using his surprise powers from Super Mario Bros. Surprise!

The latest trailer for Super Mario Galaxy The Movie also reveals a ton of new information, including two new actors joining the voice cast: Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser II. However, we're still looking forward to the reveal of Yoshi's dynamic camera.

"Super Mario Galaxy The Movie" will be released on April 3, 2026.
