Apple's supply chain partner Foxconn has built a dedicated production line for foldable screen iPhones. Its core "crease-free" screen has been officially finalized, but the hinge and battery have not yet met mass production requirements. It is reported that,The folding screen iPhone prototype has an internal screen size of 7.74 inches and an external screen size of 5.49 inches. The battery capacity of the beta version is between 5400-5800mAh, which is the largest battery in Apple’s history.Among them, folding screens are exclusively supplied by Samsung, while LG Display and BOE failed to enter the fruit chain. However, Apple has not yet determined a battery supplier. Due to the complex internal structure of the folding screen, the battery needs to pass strict testing.

In terms of hinges, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the mass production cost of Apple’s folding screen hinge is expected to be US$70 to US$80, which is far lower than the previous market consensus of US$100 to US$120 per unit. Ming-Chi Kuo also predicts that folding screen iPhone shipments will reach 8 to 10 million units in 2026, and is expected to grow to 25 million units in 2027.

Compared with competitors such as Samsung and Huawei that have already launched folding products, Apple is a latecomer. However, with its strong supply chain control capabilities and brand appeal, after Apple's folding screen is mass-produced and launched, high-end consumers' attention and acceptance of folding products are expected to increase rapidly.

According to the plan, the folding screen iPhone will be officially unveiled with the iPhone 18 Pro series in September next year.
