Opera announced that it will further expand its cooperation with Google to integrate the latest generation Gemini artificial intelligence model into most of its desktop browser products, providing users with free in-browser AI assistant functions. The Gemini-powered AI sidebar, previously only available exclusively on Opera Neon, is now available to all Opera One and Opera GX users, who can download and use these browsers for free directly from the official page.

In the new version of Opera, users can interact with Gemini through the AI chatbot in the sidebar, get contextual answers based on the current page or a set of open tabs, and even analyze videos on the web page. Opera said that this AI can help complete rapid research, generate content summaries, and compare between different tabs to provide support for information organization and decision-making.

In addition to text dialogue, Opera's AI assistant also supports voice input and voice broadcast, and can analyze multiple types of files, including pictures and video files. In order to improve response speed, Opera redesigned the AI engine architecture and introduced an "agentic" solution derived from Opera Neon, which improved response time by about 20% in the new version.

Opera emphasized that while introducing Gemini, the browser still maintains its emphasis on privacy. Users can finely control which browsing content and context can be used by Opera AI, and which information is completely excluded from its perception. Company executives said that as AI reshapes the way people interact with the Internet, the browser is the natural entrance to these experiences. By cooperating with Google, Opera can provide users with a free and more integrated experience in native search and AI functions, while advanced users using the more cutting-edge Opera Neon can already be the first to have access to higher-end models such as Gemini 3 Pro.

Although some users are worried about the trend of AI continuing to penetrate into browsers, Opera believes that "browsers are the next AI frontier." They pointed out that unlike stand-alone chatbots, browsers can access users’ currently opened tabs, page content and browsing processes in real time, thereby providing more contextual assistance in task execution and allowing users to complete more work directly in browsing scenarios. Interested users can go to Opera’s official website to download products such as Opera Browser, Opera Air, Opera GX and Opera Mini to experience the changes brought by Gemini AI for themselves.
