Samsung’s latest trifold screen Galaxy Z TriFold is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition platform. The latest fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition is not used.In this regard, Kang Min-seok, vice president of products of Samsung Mobile Division, explained,The reason why Samsung equips Galaxy Z TriFold with Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition is becauseThe company will give priority to ensuring the final product quality and completion of this trifold screen device.
It is reported that Samsung's tri-fold screen has gone through many aspects of prototype development, design and testing. Samsung has spent a long time on this. Previous reports stated that the mass production scale of the machine is only 100,000 units, which means that the sales volume of Galaxy Z TriFold is extremely limited. The reduction in production will push up the procurement cost of parts. If Samsung purchases the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition chip from Qualcomm, it will need to pay huge costs.
It is reported that the purchase price of the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition chip can reach up to US$280, while the single purchase price of the Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition is relatively affordable at about US$220. Considering the limited mass production scale of Galaxy Z TriFold, Samsung will need to pay higher costs if it purchases Qualcomm's latest flagship chip. In terms of chip procurement alone, Samsung can save approximately US$6 million by choosing the Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition.
