Dave Plummer, the developer of the Windows Task Manager and the classic pinball game, recently stated publicly,It's time for Microsoft to launch a special version of Windows 11 with no new features, no AI, and a focus on repairs. He called on Microsoft to recreate the "Windows XP SP2 moment" of the year.

Plummer believes that what Windows 11 needs most currently is to stop adding new features and devote all its energy to fixing vulnerabilities and improving stability. "Stop working on AI, stop adding new features, just fix (BUG)”, Plummer emphasized.

He used his own personal experience to support this view. When he was developing Windows XP, the "Shock Wave" worm incident broke out.

The father of task manager can’t stand it! Tell Microsoft not to mess with Win11 and fix bugs first

The seriousness of the incident forced Microsoft to shelve all new feature development. In the following months, the team focused all efforts on security and stability improvements, eventually launching the significant Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).

SP2 is not just a major update, it is more like a re-release of the operating system, introducing dozens of security features, fundamentally changing the default security model of XP, and can be called "XP 1.5".

"I think it's time for Microsoft to have another XPS2 moment," Plummer said, arguing that Microsoft should stabilize the system, improve performance, and make it more usable for power users like himself.
