A private school in Sydney, Australia, announced that it will ban the use of smartphones by primary school students from 2026 and requires parents to buy Nokia flip phones for their students. The school said the move was in response to the government's imminent ban on social media for under-16s.
According to the new policy introduced by the school, the mobile phones used by students in and after school must be flip phones such as the Nokia 2660, which sell for less than $100.
It is reported that Australia’s social media ban on people under the age of 16 will officially come into effect on the 10th of this month.
The ban clearly stipulates that minors under the age of 16 are not allowed to register or use mainstream social platforms. Even with parental permission, it is still a violation.
Once the bill takes effect, Australia will become the first country in the world to implement such a ban, and it will also be the country with the most stringent legislation in the world regarding the use of social media by minors.
It is worth mentioning that the Nokia 2660 is a flip phone launched by the Nokia brand and was first launched in June 2007.
This series of mobile phones are positioned as fashionable and practical, and are available in a variety of colors such as charcoal, burgundy, and purple for consumers to choose from.
