If SpaceX successfully goes public next year with a valuation of US$1.5 trillion, the world's richest person's net worth of US$460.6 billion is expected to more than double. According to calculations by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, if the above scenario comes true, Musk's holdings in his space company will be worth more than $625 billion, much higher than the current $136 billion. That’s in addition to his billion-dollar holdings in several other businesses, including Tesla, the world’s most valuable automaker.

Based on a pre-money valuation of US$1.5 trillion, Musk's total wealth will reach US$952 billion, an increase of approximately US$491 billion from the current level.

Musk and a representative for SpaceX did not respond to requests for comment.

The initial public offering opens up another clear path for Musk to become the world's first trillionaire, following the approval of Tesla's 12-figure compensation package last month.

Referring to the Bloomberg Wealth Index, Musk holds about 42% of SpaceX, which is headquartered in Starbase, Texas. The index uses Federal Communications Commission filings and dilution from recent rounds of financing to estimate his holdings.
