In the past few years, Chinese car companies have been conquering the Russian market, but this has also greatly impacted the interests of local Russian car companies. Recently, in an interview with Russian media, Maxim Sokolov, the head of Avtovaz, Russia’s largest automobile manufacturer, said:Publicly accused Chinese car companies of large-scale dumping in Russia, saying that the discount behavior of Chinese car companies "has gone beyond the reasonable limits of imagination."

Sokolov pointed out,In 2025, the bicycle discounts provided by Chinese brands in the Russian market were as high as 1 million rubles (approximately RMB 88,000).

However, he also emphasized that although Chinese car companies have seized the market through significant price cuts, the price of the Russian local brand Lada (Lada) owned by Avtovaz Company is "still much cheaper than Chinese cars."

It is understood that this is not the first time Sokolov has spoken out against Chinese car companies. As early as April this year, Sokolov expressed concern about the influx of Chinese economic cars with the same price as Lada Iskra into the market, saying, "This is unprecedented dumping and this abnormal dumping behavior should be investigated."

In order to help Russian local car companies cope with the impact of imported vehicles, the Russian government has also taken a series of measures. For example: increasing tariffs on imported cars, setting technology transfer thresholds, requiring more in-depth localization investment, etc.

But for Chinese car companies, Chinese models have formed a generational advantage over local Russian car brands in terms of intelligence, new energy, and safety. Moreover, sanctions against Russia by Western countries have not yet ended, and consumers have limited choices. Chinese brand cars are still the priority choice of Russian consumers.

Industry data shows that among the top 10 best-selling brands in the Russian auto market in November, Chinese brands occupied five positions, namely Haval, Geely, Changan, Chery and Jietu.

If Tenet, the joint venture brand between Chery and Russia's AGR Group, is also included, Chinese car companies already account for six of the top ten.
