After Microsoft launched the =COPILOT() function in Excel to allow users to classify and summarize data within cells in natural language,The "In-Grid Copilot" tool has also been launched to free users from the worry of memorizing complex formulas. This new feature allows users to describe their needs directly in natural language in cells, and Copilot will generate corresponding Excel formulas in real time, with a preview of the results.
For example, users only need to select the target cell, enter the "=" symbol, and then enter "(calculate total profit)" in the Copilot prompt box, and the AI assistant will automatically suggest a formula and display the calculation results.
If you are satisfied with the results, click "Keep" to apply; if not, you can "Discard" and try again.
"In-grid Copilot" can not only generate brand new formulas based on natural language instructions, but also modify existing formulas, combine and utilize data from different worksheets, and even optimize the generated formulas according to the user's more detailed requirements.
Currently, this feature is mainly available in the Excel web version for Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription customers, and can only generate one formula at a time to process one data range.
Microsoft is considering adding support for generating multiple formulas in a future update, but the exact timing has not yet been determined.
