In order to control the behavior of hiding door handles, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has now issued a public notice to publicly solicit opinions on 7 mandatory national standards (draft for approval) including the "Technical Requirements for Safety of Automobile Door Handles" and the foreign language version of the mandatory national standard "Safety Requirements for Electric Vehicles" (draft for approval).

According to the compulsory national standard formulation and revision plan issued by the National Standards Committee, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology organized and completed the preparation of 7 mandatory national standards (draft for approval) including the "Safety Technical Requirements for Automobile Door Handles" and the foreign language version of the mandatory national standard "Safety Requirements for Electric Vehicles" (draft for approval).

According to industry insiders, the requirements for car door handles are listed in very detail, which basically eliminates the possibility of exploiting loopholes. This is also done in the hope of preventing the recurrence of the tragedy of hidden door handles...

Specifically, the "Technical Requirements for Safety of Automobile Door Handles" stipulates the technical requirements, test methods and identification of the same type of automobile door handles, as follows:

car door outer handle

Each door (excluding the rear door) shall be equipped with a mechanical release outer door handle. The safety design of the vehicle should be such that after an event such as the deployment of the irreversible restraint device or the heat dispersion of the power battery, the door can be opened by mechanically releasing the outer door handle without the use of tools; for vehicles equipped with electronically controlled door locking devices or automatically activated door locking devices, when the locking device is in the locked state, after an event such as the deployment of the irreversible restraint device or heat dispersion of the power battery, the door can be opened by mechanically releasing the outer door handle without the use of tools.

car door inner handle

Each door (excluding rear doors) shall be equipped with at least one mechanical release inner door handle. When a single door is equipped with multiple mechanically released inner door handles, operating any of the inner door handles independently should be able to open the door.

Each door (excluding the back door) should have at least one mechanical release inner door handle that can be easily identified by the vehicle occupants, and its installation location should meet the following requirements:

It is located in a position that is not blocked by interior components and is intuitively visible from the corresponding position of the occupants;

Located on the door or at a location no greater than 300 mm from the edge of the door (the edge of the visible area when the door is closed);

When the lock body is on the door, the longitudinal center position of the mechanical release inner door handle is located in front of the R point of the same row of seats adjacent to the door, and the vertical center position is within the area 0 mm to 680 mm above the R point, as shown in Figure A.4.

Inner door handles (except for straight, ring, and vertical handle inner door handles with mechanical release and unique operating direction) should be equipped with permanent signs that meet the following requirements:

Depending on how the door is opened, the graphics of the logo are as shown in Figure 2 or Figure 3. The graphics are allowed to be mirrored and the size of the graphics is at least 10mm × 7mm. The thickness, gap, proportion of the graphics, arc curvature, lead angle, etc. of the graphics can be adjusted, but the logo will not be changed.

The basic components of the car, such as the door, body, and front and rear windshields, do not affect the legibility during use, and Chinese descriptions can be attached;

Located in an unobstructed position, it can indicate the position of the handle inside the door;

The graphic color contrasts sharply with the background color and is easy to identify;

Clearly visible in dark conditions such as at night (including but not limited to backlight, interior lighting, etc.).

For vehicles that can electrically release the door lock from outside the vehicle, the test shall be carried out in accordance with the prescribed method. After the test, the door (excluding the back door) shall be opened by mechanically releasing the outer door handle in a single or repeated action without the use of tools.

The door (excluding the rear door) is opened by a single or repeated action of the mechanical release of the inner door handle.
