According to India's "Economic Times" report, people familiar with the matter said that Apple is in early discussions with Indian chip manufacturers and plans to assemble and package chips for the iPhone in India. According to people familiar with the matter,Apple has held exploratory talks with CG Semi, a subsidiary of Indian conglomerate Murugappa Group, which is building an outsourced semiconductor packaging and testing factory in Sanand, Gujarat, India.

People familiar with the matter said this is the first time Apple has evaluated the possibility of doing some chip assembly and packaging in India. It's unclear what type of chips Apple will package at the Sanand plant, but it's likely to be display chips.

CG Semi told the Economic Times that it does not comment on market rumors or discussions with specific customers. "Once there is specific content to share, we will make appropriate disclosures."

Reuters reported in April that,Apple plans to produce most of the iPhones sold in the United States in Indian factories by the end of 2026, and is currently accelerating this plan.

As of press time, Apple has not commented on this.
