BOE and Samsung, the two giants in the global display industry, finally made peace at the end of 2025 after nearly three years of patent tug-of-war.BOE and Samsung Display announced that they have reached a comprehensive settlement of the OLED patent and trade secret litigation that lasted for nearly three years, and jointly submitted an application to the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) to terminate related investigations.

According to the report,Just a few days before the ITC’s final ruling was announced, the situation took a dramatic turn. The ITC announced the suspension of the proceedings and confirmed that it had received the application to withdraw the lawsuit jointly submitted by both parties.

This dispute began at the end of 2022. Samsung took the lead in launching a "337 investigation" to the ITC, accusing BOE of infringing its core OLED patents such as pixel circuits, and later added accusations of trade secret infringement. BOE immediately launched a series of patent counterclaims in China to fight back.

Some analysts believe that the litigation that lasted for nearly three years did not make any party a winner. On the contrary, both parties paid a very high price.

The situation turned for the better in the second half of 2025. With the exchange of visits between Samsung Display Division President Long Xiyu and BOE Chairman, the focus of both parties shifted from legal games to business cooperation.

Korean media reported that senior executives from both parties have reached a consensus on expanding the supply of LCD and OLED panels. BOE plans to increase its supply share of Samsung TV LCD panels to 10% in 2026.
