Looking back on its history, the factory was established in 1996 and was Sony's first wholly-owned enterprise in South China. At its peak of development, about half of the world's DVD players were produced in this factory, with more than 30,000 employees.

Previously, another Japanese brand, Zhongshan Canon, also attracted attention on the Internet for its generous employee compensation package when it withdrew. The compensation is not simply "N+1", but adopts the calculation method of "2.5N+1", and is superimposed with a number of special consolation payments.
