The current computer hardware market is experiencing a “price inversion”.The second-hand market price of the legendary AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D has been soaring recently, and it has completely surpassed its successor 7800X3D.On Xianyu, the average price of the 5800X3D has reached around 2,450 yuan. At the same time, the 7800X3D, which has leading performance in all aspects, can be purchased for only about 1,900 yuan.

The root cause of this strange phenomenon of "newer than old" is not the CPU itself, but the price of its DDR5 memory. The 7800X3D is based on the AM5 platform and must be paired with DDR5 memory.
However, due to the recent skyrocketing price of memory, even if you choose second-hand, the increase is enough to make the overall installed budget out of control.
On the other hand, the 5800X3D is an AM4 platform and the memory version is the older DDR4. Even related second-hand products have increased in price. However, because DDR4 has been on the market for a long time and the quantity base is huge, the price increase is not as exaggerated as that of DDR5.
What's more, many users may also have related hardware that has been eliminated from upgrading their computers in the past and can directly use it, so that the only cost is the processor.
And this wave of memory price shock is far from over. Due to the crazy thirst for HBM in global AI servers, giants such as SK Hynix, Samsung and Micron are shifting their main production capacity to the AI field, resulting in a serious shortage of ordinary consumer-grade memory.
There are reports that this shortage in the DRAM market may continue until 2028. When DDR5 core particle technology is still in the hands of a few giants and there is no expansion of new production capacity, it is difficult for ordinary players to see a turnaround in the installation costs in the short term.
