Twenty-four top artificial intelligence companies have agreed to join the U.S. federal government’s Genesis Mission, an initiative launched by the Trump administration to promote the use of artificial intelligence technology in scientific discovery and energy projects.

Companies such as OpenAI, Microsoft, Nvidia, Amazon Web Services and Alphabet subsidiary Google have signed memorandums of understanding with the government, have existing projects with the Department of Energy or national laboratories, or have expressed a desire to join the program.
"Using cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology to conduct scientific research will significantly increase the productivity of American scientists and researchers," said Michael Kratsios, head of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. "The Genesis Mission will help American scientists automate experimental design, accelerate simulations, and generate predictive models to achieve breakthroughs in areas such as energy, manufacturing, and drug development."
Trump announced the initiative in an executive order last month to better coordinate research efforts across government agencies and more effectively integrate artificial intelligence tools to achieve more scientific breakthroughs.
