Sony and Honda announced that their upcoming Afeela 1 car will support PlayStation remote play capabilities. The two companies established a joint automotive venture called Sony Honda Mobility in 2022 to jointly produce pure electric vehicles.

The two parties will launch automotive products under the Afeela brand. The first mass-produced model, Afeela 1, is scheduled to be delivered in California in 2026.

Honda's new car Afeela 1 will support PlayStation remote play function

Today, Sony Honda Mobility announced that the Afeela series of vehicles will provide PlayStation remote play capabilities through the Afeela in-car infotainment system, allowing passengers to play PS4 or PS5 games.

It should be noted that it is currently confirmed that only PlayStation remote play is supported, not the cloud game streaming service provided through PlayStation Plus - this means that players need to keep the PS4 or PS5 console at home turned on and transmit the game screen to the car.

"With the PS Remote Play function, users can remotely access and control the PS4 or PS5 console at home directly from the car interface through the Afeela in-car infotainment system," Sony Honda Mobility said in a statement. "This function provides users with a convenient way to remotely play console games by integrating the display and high-end sound systems. Whether you are waiting in a car or entertaining passengers during a long journey, Afeela's integrated functions allow you to enjoy the PlayStation gaming experience in the car."

Izumi Kawanishi, Representative Director, President and Chief Operating Officer of Sony Honda Mobility, added: "The introduction of the PS remote play function reflects Afeela's mobility vision - transforming travel spaces into attractive and emotionally resonant places. Through this integration, we are elevating our customers' overall travel experience to unprecedented levels of entertainment."

This isn't the first time a car has built-in support for video games. In 2022, Tesla launched a native Steam application for its models, allowing users to play Steam platform games through the in-car display while the vehicle is parked or charging. However, the company ended Steam support for cars last year.

Microsoft also announced in September this year that cars using the LG webOS Automotive Content Platform will be able to stream games through Xbox cloud games as long as the user has an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership and an in-car data traffic package.
