In September this year, Apple, Qualcomm and MediaTek each released their annual flagship chips. They are A19/A19 Pro, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 and Dimensity 9500. These chips are all manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process.
Entering 2026, the 2nm era has officially arrived.Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek will all launch 2nm mobile phone chips in September 2026.They are A20/A20 Pro, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 series and Dimensity 9600. These chips will be manufactured by TSMC.
According to media reports, TSMC has started mass production of the 2nm process. The company will build three new factories to expand production capacity and meet customer needs. Considering that the production cycle of the 2nm process is longer than that of the 3nm process, the final shaping work of Apple, Qualcomm and MediaTek chips has most likely been completed ahead of schedule.
It is worth noting that in order to compete with Apple, Qualcomm will launch two 2nm chips in September next year, which are expected to be named Snapdragon 8 Gen6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6, and may also be named Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 Pro.These two chips are benchmarked against Apple's A20 and A20 Pro respectively.
As for MediaTek, current news shows that it only has a 2nm chip, Dimensity 9600. Whether FaGe will divide it into two versions like Qualcomm is still under internal discussion.
As usual, the Apple A20 series will be first installed on the iPhone 18 series, the Dimensity 9600 will be first installed on the vivo X500 series and OPPO Find X10 series, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 series will be first installed on the Xiaomi 18 series.
