During New Year's Day,A player posted on social media that he encountered a meltdown incident on the RTX 5090 interface while playing games on New Year’s Eve, and his originally festive New Year mood suddenly fell to the bottom.According to the victim Alfredwooden, he was using Gigabyte AORUS GeForce RTX 5090 MASTER ICE to play "Baldur's Gate 3" on New Year's Day.

After playing the game for about three hours, a smell of burning plastic suddenly filled the room. He immediately turned off the computer and checked. He found that the 12V-2x6 power supply interface and wires of the graphics card had been severely burned, and the originally white wires were obviously yellow and charred.

Although NVIDIA has popularized the improved 12V-2x6 interface in the RTX 50 series, shortening the sensing pins to ensure "power only when fully inserted", aiming to solve the meltdown risk of the previous generation 12VHPWR, this case shows that this solution still cannot completely eliminate hidden dangers.

Alfredwooden said angrily: "Don't believe that 12V-2x6 is safe. RTX 5090 is still burning. Don't buy NVIDIA products."

However, some netizens in the comment area pointed out the details. Judging from the photos, the author seemed to have excessively bent the power supply wire. Most graphics card manufacturers usually recommend leaving at least 35mm of straight space before bending 12V-2x6 cables, but Alfredwooden apparently did not follow this advice.

Since the photo left traces of suspected "man-made damage", it is still doubtful whether the graphics card can be returned or exchanged smoothly. However, with the current skyrocketing price of high-end cards, even if the manufacturer refunds the original price, it will be extremely difficult for players to buy back an RTX 5090 at the same price.
