It is understood that after the Dutch government implemented an operational freeze on Nexperia at the end of September 2025, the company's Dutch headquarters then took unilateral actions such as cutting off the supply of wafers to Nexperia China, which in turn triggered a structural shortage of global automotive-grade chips, and many car companies in many countries experienced production cuts and suspensions.
Among them, Honda has been hit the hardest, and Nissan and Bosch related automobile supporting production have also been affected.
Affected by the suspension of shipments, Honda suspended production at its Mexican factory in October and November this year, and factories in the United States and Canada were also forced to reduce production.
Honda had previously expected that its operating profit would be reduced by approximately 150 billion yen (approximately 6.66 billion yuan) in the fiscal year ending in March 2026 due to chip shortages.
Affected by this factor, Honda has lowered its global vehicle sales target for fiscal year 2026 from 3.62 million vehicles to 3.34 million vehicles.
In November 2025, Honda's terminal sales in the Chinese market fell sharply by 33.78% year-on-year, and cumulative sales from January to November fell by 21.86%. Guangqi Honda has implemented a series of adjustment measures for production capacity.
In October 2025, Guangzhou Automobile Honda closed its fourth production line with an annual production capacity of 50,000 vehicles, and Honda's total automobile production capacity in China dropped from 1.49 million vehicles to 1.2 million vehicles.
