For many Windows 11 users, looking at the list of updates can sometimes feel like reading from heaven. Especially driver updates,Names similar to “Microsoft Corporation–Driver Update” followed by a series of meaningless version numbers often appear. Users have no way of knowing whether this is a patch for printers, cameras, or speakers.

In response to this long-criticized pain point,Microsoft is planning to make major changes to the driver naming rules for Windows 11. According to Windows Latest, Microsoft plans to forcefully include device categories in driver names.
Device categories are essentially labels for hardware types, such as cameras, display adapters, network adapters, Bluetooth, etc. These can all be found in the Device Manager, this way users can get a clearer idea of what each driver does specifically.
Simply put, when you see a driver update in the future, it will have a clear label, such as "Camera", "Display Adapter" or "Network Adapter".
A representative from Microsoft's Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) team said that although Microsoft has this intention, the change may take some time to implement due to process issues.
"We are still determining what metadata is available and ensuring partners publish it in their drivers before standardizing and changing naming. Unfortunately, there is no specific timeline yet," the representative noted.
