Nintendo's popular life simulation game "Assemble!" A major update for "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" originally scheduled to be released on January 15th has now been launched ahead of schedule. Players can download it now and upgrade the game version to 3.0. This update is free and open to players on all platforms, providing rich new content and multiple practical functional improvements for users who have not returned to the island for a long time.

It should be emphasized that what is launched in advance this time is not a paid upgrade version for Switch 2. The Switch 2 special upgrade originally planned to be launched on January 15 is still on schedule. The upgrade will bring new features to the game including 4K graphics, online connections for up to 12 people, and the use of Switch 2’s new Joy-Con controller to achieve mouse-like operations. This content will be available as a separate paid upgrade package, separate from the free 3.0 update that is currently live.
The 3.0 update, which is the first to be released, is regarded as a "thicker" free content package, adding a large number of gameplay optimizations and system expansions to each version of the game. Many new features have been the direction of improvement that the player community has repeatedly called for over the years, including significantly increasing the storage limit for props and items, supporting the continuous production of multiple items at one time, and cleaning up some debris on the island through automated services to reduce the operational burden of long-term maintenance of the island environment.
In terms of content, the player’s island will also welcome a brand new hotel facility to further enrich daily life and interactive scenes. For users who have subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online, this update also adds some playable NES classic games, allowing players to pass the time in a retro way on the island.
"Assemble!" Since its launch in 2020, "Animal Crossing" has been regarded as one of the most representative "slow-paced" social and life simulation works on the console platform. It is unclear whether the 3.0 update can significantly drive players back in the long term, but the update content has triggered obvious discussions in the community. Many old players expressed their willingness to take this opportunity to return to the island and rearrange and arrange their island life.
